Wm. Prescott Roofing & Rem., Inc. located on W. Noblestown Rd, in Carnegie, has been a family owned business over 100 years. William Prescott founded Prescott Roofing in 1906, just after he arrived in the United States from England.
The original shop opened at 235 Noblestown Rd, in East Carnegie and the business name was William Prescott Roofing and Sheet Metal.
William Prescott had four sons: Charles, James, George and William, and they all worked in the business from very young ages. In 1961 at age 83, William Prescott passed away and the business was left to George since Charles passed on before his father and James worked for Duquesne Light Co. The name was then changed to William Prescott & Sons. George and William worked at the business and added heating to their services. William's son, Bill Jr., also worked in the business since age 16. In 1974 after George and William retired, Bill Jr., continued working in the business with the new additions and changed the name to William Prescott Roofing & Heating.
In the early 70's, Bill Jr. incorporated the business and it grew and became more diversified. He sold the heating division and concentrated on roofing and remodeling services. The company name was changed once more to Wm. Prescott Roofing & Remodeling, Inc.
In addition to the roofing and remodeling division, Bill Jr. added The Sea Deli & Restaurant located on Noblestown Rd, Greentree in 1978, The Kindle Shop in 1984 located at 200 E. Main St, Carnegie and Chartiers Valley Self Storage located next to the shop in 1986.
Bill Jr. and his wife Barbara operated the business from 1974 until they retired to south Florida in 1998. Even though they retired they were still active in the company until Bill Jr. passed in 2005 and then Barbara took ownership.
In September 2004, the shop located at W. Noblestown Rd, Carnegie was devastated by the flood from hurricane Ivan. The business, at this point, had to rebuild. In 2006, Barbara's son, Ted Schmider, took over as general manager to assist in the rebuilding process and in 2007 Barbara's grandson, Chris Schmider, joined the company as operations manager. He is now the 5th generation. Barbara became ill in 2010 and moved back to the area and resided in Oakdale, PA with her daughter. In 2011 Barbara's daughter, Diane Schmider- Valentino, joined the company as office manager and in October 2011 the company was then transferred to Ted Schmider, Chris Schmider and Diane Schmider-Valentino.
